4-3-3 Build-Up Training Session
A 4-3-3 build-up session should give players a clear picture of the first pass, the pivot's support angle, and the wide player's role when the opposition press jumps.
Show the build-up picture first
Players need to see where the goalkeeper, center backs, pivot, full-backs, and wingers sit before the drill becomes live.
- Start with a board scene showing the opposition press.
- Name the spare player you are trying to find.
- Agree when the full-back stays low or pushes high.
Rehearse the first three passes
The session should isolate the opening choices before asking players to solve the full pitch picture.
- Use an unopposed pattern for goalkeeper, center back, and pivot timing.
- Add pressing players once body shape and distances look right.
- Reward the team when the third player receives facing forward.
Finish with directional pressure
A 4-3-3 build-up drill needs a realistic endpoint: play into midfield, find the winger, or switch away from the press.
- Give the defending team a counter goal after regains.
- Use touch limits only where they support the coaching point.
- Let the build-up team score by breaking into the next zone.
